Stop worrying, it does not accomplish anything (greatist) |
Leo Buscaglia, an American author and motivational speaker, once said, “Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.”
This quote perfectly describes this ineffective habit and tells us exactly why we need to stop it. Here is how.
Remain calm-
A great way to deal with a scary situation that is causing you to worry is to remain calm. Avoid feeling overwhelmed by your worries by remaining calm.
Take a deep breath instead and do what Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Pray -
Praying
is always a better alternative to worrying. Why? Its because you know
you are taking your issues to someone greater than you who offers peace.
Rick Warren explains better. In his words, “The
more you pray, the less you’ll panic. The more you worship, the less
you worry. You’ll feel more patient and less pressured.”
Don't be afraid to ask for help
Taking
your worries to your Heavenly Father does not mean you cant talk to
someone. As Christians, we are instructed to help others. Galatians 6:2
tells us “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” This also means we have others to rely on when we need their help.
Turn to God’s words
The
Bible has a great way of reminding us of God’s promises, which in turns
sustains our faith and drowns our issues. Faced with His words, our
worries/problems tend to look really small.
Ralph Waldo Emerson puts perfectly, “Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, Faith looks up”
Bible verses to combat your worries
Here are a few scriptures that will help you overcome your worrying habit.
“We don’t have to be anxious when we can freely talk with God about our needs. …” — Philippians 4:6.
“Not only will God give us peace, but He will also strengthen us. …” — Isaiah 41:10.
“Be
strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them,
for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake
you.” — Deuteronomy 31:6.
“So
do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I
will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous
right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10.
“The Lord is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life — of whom shall I be afraid?” — Psalm 27:1.
