Zakkat Commission Disburses N11.8m to Needy in Sokoto

naira-dollar-parallel-marketThe Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission, says it has disbursed N11.8 million to various hospitals, pharmaceutical shops and individuals across the state to meet health and various needs.
The Commission’s Chairman, Malam Lawal Maidoki, disclosed this while flagging-off the distribution on Monday in Sokoto.
Maidoki said the assistance was part of the state government’s monthly support to the commission to assist the less privileged in the society.
“Every month the state government supports the commission with N31.5 million to assist the needy in the area of medical, shelter, food and disaster, among others to improve their living standard.
“This month, we disbursed N1.98 million to assist 81 persons, who are victims of fire outbreak, those in need of medicals, food, shelter and debt settlement, among others,” he said.
The commission chairman said N2 million was given to the 20 local governments with each getting N100, 000 to assist the needy in medical treatment.
He said about N7.89 million was also distributed among various hospitals and pharmaceutical shops across the metropolis as monthly health support to the needy in the state.
The benefitting hospitals include Kware Psychiatric Hospital, Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) and Specialist Hospital, Sokoto.
Others are, Wamakko Orthopaedic Hospital, Maryam Abacha Hospital, Iman Hospital, Binji Pharmacy, Zumunci Pharmacy, Rauda Pharmacy and Maigobir Pharmacy, among others.
He appealed to wealthy individuals to support government’s effort by contributing their own quarter and urged the beneficiaries to judiciously utilise the gesture in improving their living standard.
